The Story & Details
A heart of Amethyst, wrapped in layers of blue-grey Agate.
Some specimens are beautiful from the front. Others become even more interesting when you turn them around.
This extraordinary Brazilian Amethyst Agate Teardrop Freeform is a perfect example of the latter, combining a densely crystallised Amethyst cavity with remarkably fine natural Agate banding.
Weighing approximately 325g, this individually selected piece has been shaped into an elegant teardrop, allowing both the natural crystalline interior and the surrounding polished stone to become part of the design.
The front reveals a beautiful arrangement of violet Amethyst crystals, ranging from deep smoky purple to softer lavender tones.
Countless crystal points fill the cavity, creating a richly textured surface that catches and reflects the light. Towards the lower section, several larger Amethyst points emerge amongst the finer druzy, adding depth and variation to the formation.
But the most distinctive feature becomes visible when the piece is turned.
Along the polished side, extraordinary layers of blue-grey, white and slate-coloured Agate follow the curve of the teardrop in delicate, closely spaced bands.
These natural lines resemble flowing water, ripples in stone or layers of silk, creating a beautiful contrast against the darker Amethyst crystals.
It's a specimen that offers two completely different forms of natural beauty: the intricate geometry of crystalline quartz and the flowing, almost painterly patterns of banded Agate.
A Crystal Heart Within
The exposed Amethyst cavity forms the centrepiece of this freeform.
Its densely packed crystals create a beautiful variation in texture, with smaller points covering much of the surface and larger formations emerging towards the lower edge.
The colouring moves between smoky violet, muted lavender and deeper purple, giving the crystal face a beautifully atmospheric appearance.
As light moves across the druzy, individual crystal faces reflect it differently, creating small flashes and highlights throughout the cavity.
The surrounding polished Agate provides a natural frame, allowing the Amethyst to remain the focal point without overwhelming the delicate mineral banding.
Layers of Blue Agate
The side profile of this specimen is particularly remarkable.
Fine, parallel bands of pale blue-grey, soft white and deeper slate tones trace the natural contours of the stone.
These layers are characteristic of Agate, a variety of chalcedony recognised for its distinctive banded formations.
The high polish enhances the contrast between the individual bands, revealing the intricate natural patterns that developed during the mineral's formation.
Rather than being a simple backing to the Amethyst, the Agate becomes an equally important part of the specimen's appeal.
The Character of Amethyst & Agate
Amethyst is the purple variety of crystalline quartz, admired for its violet colouring and naturally occurring crystal formations.
Agate is a variety of chalcedony, a microcrystalline form of quartz, commonly recognised for its natural banding.
Both materials can occur together within mineral cavities, producing beautiful combinations of crystalline interiors and layered chalcedony.
This particular specimen is notable for its dense Amethyst druzy, larger individual crystal points and exceptionally fine blue-grey Agate banding.
Traditional Associations
Within contemporary crystal traditions, Amethyst and Agate are often symbolically associated with:
- Peace & Calm: Quiet reflection and creating a peaceful atmosphere.
- Protection & Warding: Traditional protective symbolism.
- Intuition & Psychic Work: Exploring personal insight and awareness.
- Spiritual Growth: Developing personal beliefs and spiritual practice.
- Grounding: Stability and connection to the present moment.
These are traditional spiritual associations rather than scientifically established effects.

Display & Care
Display the freeform on a stable, level surface where the exposed crystal points will not be accidentally knocked or damaged.
Avoid prolonged exposure to strong direct sunlight, as some Amethyst specimens may fade over time.
Clean the polished Agate gently using a soft, dry cloth. The exposed Amethyst crystals can be dusted carefully with a soft brush.
Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaning products and rough handling of the crystalline surface.
Natural inclusions, fractures, cavities, mineral boundaries and growth features may be present and form part of the specimen's individual character.
Please note: Crystal sparkle, colour intensity and the appearance of the natural banding may vary depending on lighting and viewing angle. Weight is approximate.
