The Story & Details
Sometimes two minerals just absolutely know what they're doing together.
This Brazilian specimen combines a dense bed of deep purple amethyst with a substantial natural calcite formation sweeping across one side. The contrast is ridiculous: hundreds of smaller amethyst crystal points create a dark, sparkling surface behind the pale, architectural calcite crystals.
The specimen has been shaped into a heart around the natural mineral formation and displayed upright on a gold-toned metal stand. At 820 g, it has real presence, but it is the relationship between the two minerals that makes this one particularly difficult to ignore.
Amethyst & Calcite
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz, coloured by trace iron and natural irradiation during formation. Brazil is one of the world's major sources of amethyst and is particularly well known for crystal-lined geodes and clusters.
Calcite is a calcium carbonate mineral capable of forming in a huge variety of crystal habits. Here, the pale calcite has developed directly against the amethyst, creating a naturally occurring mineral association rather than simply two stones placed together for display.
Intention
Within crystal and spiritual practice, amethyst is traditionally associated with intuition, spiritual growth, peace and divination. Calcite is commonly associated with cleansing, clarity and energetic movement.
These are traditional metaphysical associations rather than scientifically established properties.
